Now X Factor studies shake up business

AN X Factor-inspired course designed to jazz up the dry subject of business studies went on show today at Glasgow college.

And the MacDonald Brothers, two finalists from the popular talent search show, have backed the Enterprise Thru Music initiative and unveiled it.

The course has been put together by Stow College and teaches students how to run their own record label.

It takes 15 to 17-year-olds through the whole process, from picking acts to recording songs and distributing the finished product.

College launches music business course

And it could produce an army of fledgling Simon Cowells because X Factor-style auditions form part of the course.

It has been trialled at around eight schools in the Glasgow area.

The course was showcased at the college today as it was offered to other institutions, who will be able to buy it from Stow.

Gordon Campbell, college enterprise co-ordinator, said: "If you talk to young people in schools about business and enterprise, it is a bit of a switch-off.

"By putting the word business with music, it becomes a whole different ball game. It becomes exciting and dynamic."

Through such activities as writing press releases and designing a marketing campaign, they also hone their English and communication skills, Mr Campbell said.

The announcement comes ahead of the X Factor live show, when stars from the show appear at Glasgow's SECC on Sunday and Monday.

New Music Video

The MacDonald Bros have been requested by Sony BMG (Australia) to film a music video for "You Can Always Come Home Son" of the lads latest album Young Celts. The boys have been off filming this month and will continue to do so until the end of January. Some of the early shots are already looking fantastic. This is an important video for the boys so lets hope everything goes well for them.

Ae Fond Kiss

The MacDonald Bros own version of "Ae Fond Kiss" is being heavily promoted for this years Robert Burns Celebrations. We hope to be hearing the track on a few of Scotland's radio stations and also at other events across the country as part of Scotland's Homecoming celebrations of the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth.

Scottish Tour 2009

As well as the boys hopefully heading out to Australia again in the next few months to promote their next album and tour, we are in the process of setting up a brand new Scottish tour for 2009. Dates will be posted on the gigs page asap!

The MacDonald Bros - new pics for 2009!

Re-scheduled Elgin Tour date

Good news!!

We have now been given the new date for the re-scheduled New Elgin hall gig!

And not only that...due to popular demand the guys have also added an extra date at the New Elgin Hall!

The re-scheduled date is Friday 12th December.  Tickets from the postponed date (17th Oct) are valid for the 12th Dec only

The additional date has been set for Thursday 11th December, and tickets for this show go on sale on Monday 27th October

"Young celts" enters chart at No8

The Macs new album "Young Celts"  has soared in at no.8 in the Scottish charts.

The boys are "over the moon" to be back in the Scottish top 10 with their new release. They are now taking a few days break after their mamoth World Record Attempt which saw the lads appear at 48 stores in a week.  They are now awaiting news from the Guiness Book Of World Records to see whether the massive feat is recognised as a World Record.

The lads would personally like to thank all their fans for their support and look forward to seeing them at the start of their Winter tour.

Elgin Tour date cancelled!

We are sorry to announce that the boys 1st tour gig in New Elgin Hall has been re-scheduled due to Craig losing his voice. The lads have been attempting a World Record Attempt this week performing at roughly 10 stores per day where Craig has pushed his voice to the limit.

Doctors at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary have advised Craig to rest his voice completely for at least the next couple of days to ensure he doesn't seriously damage his vocal chords.

The boys are extremely disappointed to let everyone down and promise to put on a fantastic show when the gig is re-scheduled. More details will follow in the next couple of days when the new date will be confirmed.

Meet the macs night

Hey everyone!..........

The guys and their managment are very conscious of the fact that during the in store attempt on what we believe to be the world record the lads will be unable due to the really tight schedule to spend the time with the fans they normally do. Also during the tour as you know there is always only very limited availability for “meet and greets” .

As a way round this and to say thanks the lads receive from their fans they are going to be organizing a “Meet The Macs” night !

Details are still to be finalized but basically the guys will be taking over a venue such as a club where on a first come first served basis around 200 fans can attend a MACnificent night of entertainment.

In addition to doing a small pure acoustic set the lads will be available during a part of the evening for photos, a bit of banter and any memorabilia or photos etc you need signing.

Some of the things planned are as follows.........

  • Camera Corner – get your piccys taken with the lads to a choice of fun backdrop.

  • Team Talk : Stuart, Gordon, Fraser, Graeme and all the gang at The Music Kitchen will be on a panel where you get the chance to ask the questions you have been meaning to for a long time. The team will also spell out the plan of action for Craig and Brian over the next year.

  • Meet Mum and Dad – The lads parents will be in attendance to get you a few unique (and very very interesting!) anecdotes through the years.

  • Macaraoke – your opporutinty to singalong to the lads favourite songs

  • MAC Disco : Boogie on down to the Macs super sounds.

Keep watching website for details of the event which we envisage will take place near to Xmas!

Message From The Manager - Australian Trip!

Hi, its Gordon the manager here!

As you know, the Macs are heading off to Australia shortly for their 1st overseas promotional trip! Its a big event for us all, especially Craig & Brian.

As you also may be aware, they jet off from Glasgow on Thursday 11th of September, on the first leg of their flight to Australia.

Lots of you have been enquiring about the time and flight the lads will be on to be at the airport to wave them off. Im sure both Brian and Craig would be pleased to see you all there for what will be a really exciting day!!

However, after consulting with airport security we have been advised that we are unable to give out flight details and exact times, except to say the lads will be departing sometime in the afternoon. This is obviously something we must adhere to as airport safety and security is the prime consideration.

We would request therefore especially as the media may be coming along, that everyone respects the airport authorities wishes and ensure the lads send off goes without a hitch!!

Thanks again for your continued support and maybe see you there on the day!

Kind Regards

Gordon

Message from Grodon - Macdonald Bros Manager

A Message From The Manager!!!!

"The Great Big Scottish Songbook"

Hello everyone and hope you are all well.

Just a quick note to say as you know the MacDonald Bros are featured on a new album that is out today called “The Great Big Scottish Songbook”.

The album is being released on the mighty EMI record label and is a celebration of Scottish music through the ages from heritage acts such as Jimmy Shand right up to KT Tunstall. It will be the subject of a very big marketing campaign throughout Scotland and the TV advert shows a glimpse of Craig and Brian although you need to look closely….!

EMI have selected no fewer than three tracks by the MacDonald Bros namely “Shang A Lang”, a remix of Come Back Susannah and their brilliant new version of “Flower of Scotland” which has been receiving rave reviews and in currently only available on this album.

In addition there is a ‘secret’ instrumental track by the lads which you will find if you look closely and remember the tour !!

The MacDonald Bros and everyone at The Music Kitchen are extremely excited about the album release as well as honoured – this is the first time the lads have been featured alongside legendary names such as The Proclaimers, Simple Minds and even Sir Paul McCartney on such a project.

Aside from this however it is providing the lads with wonderful new opportunities. If for example the album goes really well and people who would not necessarily have listened to the lads before get to hear their version of “Flower of Scotland” it could result a great deal of interest for the new album which has a distinctly Scottish flavour.

This interest plays a large part in convincing the big stores to stock The MacDonald Bros album which in turn helps us deliver a good chart position which is important in building the lads career.

Also, EMI have indicated that that if the album does well in the UK it is possible they may look to considering releasing the album overseas which will give us a real platform to help launch the lads in places like America and Canada.

In this regard The Great Big Scottish Songbook is a very important project for us.

We are working really hard at the Music Kitchen to help make the album become a hit and we would be very grateful if you the fans can consider supporting the album in any way you can. We know you can make a real difference.

For example Father’s Day is only a couple of weeks away and The Great Big Scottish Songbook would possibly make an ideal gift as many of the acts your dad probably likes are on the album. You could then ‘borrow’ the CD’s the Macs tracks are on???!!!

Also things like talking about the album to your friends, asking about it in record stores and politely requesting your local radio station to play the album would do no harm – anything in fact that helps the album become successful and hopefully reach No.1 in Scotland would be great and very much appreciated.

All the best and thanks again for the continued terrific support you give to the MacDonald Bros which the lads and all at The Music Kitchen greatly value.

Gordon Campbell

Ps : There is a brilliant huge feature in the Daily Record today ( Monday 26May) on the album (which should be in all the main stores now) which includes a nice picture on Craig and Brian as part of a montage of Scottish stars.

'The World Outside' available to Pre Order....NOW!

The MacDonald Brothers 2nd album 'The World Outside' is now available to PRE ORDER at www.HMV.co.uk

*News posted by Carrie on 12/8/2007*

New album to be released 15/10/2007

Following on from the success of their first album the guys are already back in the studio recording their second album. The album is expected to be bigger and better than the first. In previous radio interviews the lads have said that they want to write more of their own stuff so hopefully we will be seeing more original tracks on this album as the two, the guys wrote themselves on their self titled first album were really well received by their fans.

The album will be realeased just as their Scottish tour is coming to an end so they will certainley be getting the news out there that the second MacDonald Bros album is on its way, I for one can't wait to pre order my copy!!!

Also straight from the horses mouth (sorry Brian) the lads have confirmed that there will probably only be one or two covers on their new album, which means  more original great songs from the lads!!

Macs fans appear on new single!!

The MacDonald Brothers have given starstruck fans the chance to appear on their next hit single - as backing singers. For those of you who were there, I think we can safely say it was a wonderful experience and a huge success.

Brothers Craig, 21, and Brian, 20, are putting the finishing touches to their second album, The World Outside, which is due for release on October 15.

And more than 30 lucky fans crammed into the Music Kitchen recording studio in Edinburgh on 26/07/2007 for the session.

All of the fans who sang on the backing track will be credited in the CD, which is to include a 30- minute documentary DVD showcasing the boys' rise to stardom.

MacDonald Bros embark on first tour!!

The MacDonald Bros have recently revealed that they are to embark on their first Scottish tour this year. The tour is expected to be a complete sell out and if you have ever been to any MacDonald Bros gig you will know exactly why. The lads have a huge following especially in Scotland but it is a real shame that they haven't added a few dates to the tour outside of Scotland.

The tour will start in Langholm in August and end in their home town of Ayr at the Gaiety Theatre, we also expect the lads will be celebrating their second No.1 Album as well as the end of a sell out tour.
